From a 2014 dust-covered will to a 2026 executor PDF in 90 days.
Maya runs a consulting practice she incorporated in 2012. She's married, has two kids (ages 9 and 12), and lives in a semi-detached on the west side of Toronto. Her will is from 2014 — drafted right after her daughter was born and never updated. Like most successful people, she'd been meaning to revisit it for years.
Maya signed up at /signup, then went to /register-will. Two minutes later she had a registration code emailed to her and a wallet card printed and slipped into the back of her wallet. She also stored a duplicate card with her original will in her lawyer's vault.
She separately registered her Power of Attorney for Property (her husband as primary attorney, her sister as alternate) and the Power of Attorney for Personal Care she'd executed the same year. Each got its own code and wallet card.
Over three evenings, Maya worked through the 11-section wizard. She added: TD (chequing + savings, joint with her husband), Scotiabank (long-term savings, sole), Wealthsimple RRSP + TFSA, Questrade non-registered, the principal residence and a cottage in Muskoka, her corp shares, two insurance policies, and her digital recovery materials (1Password + Ledger).
She didn't bother trying to remember exact values — she let the range pickers do their job and pulled exact ACBs for the non-registered portfolio and the cottage out of her records. Total time: maybe 90 minutes spread across three sessions.
Once the map was 70% complete, the Estate Plan engine flagged:
• LCGE: $1.25M of room unused on her QSBC shares. Opportunity flagged for a crystallization conversation.
• Estate freeze: business value north of $1M, kids old enough to set up a family trust. Opportunity flagged.
• Secondary will (Ontario): recommended to keep her corp shares out of probate.
• Insurance gap: $485k projected liquidity shortfall. The Estate Plan routed this to Donsky & Donsky for a quote.
• Stale will: 12 years since signed. Strongly recommended a review with her lawyer.
Maya forwarded the Estate Plan PDF to her wills lawyer with a one-line note: "Can we talk about the freeze and the secondary will?" Her lawyer used the inventory as the discussion document, which compressed a normally two-meeting engagement into one.
Three months later: a new will + secondary will + freeze + family trust were all done. The crystallization happened the following tax year.
